A frugal tip for today-Save $$ at home and start a vacation fund!

If you have been reading my blog lately you KNOW I am always looking to save $$ and use the money for fun stuff like vacations. I love to get out of dodge! Here we are at California Adventure in March '09

My husband and I have a separate bank account for vacations. We stash money in it all year long (ex. farmer's market earnings, rebate checks, money from family members, extra money not used on food that week because of "couponing", bonuses at work, and selling items we don't need on the internet). We choose to only pay cash for vacations. I think it makes us enjoy it more-and we earned it! Plus, we don't want to be in debt for our vacations. Then if I see a steal of a deal on airfare I can just buy it on a credit card and transfer the money right away and pay it off.

So the more I save the more I have in our vacation fund (or if heaven forbid-in the event of a job loss) I hope this isn't boring to you, I am into this stuff. I like reading blogs that inspire me to save money so here's the start of some of my SIMPLE household money saving tips. Remember they all add up-A penny earned is a penny saved Quote by: Abe Lincoln (I think he said that one)!

If you have soft water cut the Electrasol tabs (or detergent) in half. My dishes are just as clean. Try it and experiment with yours to see if it works for you. Don't forget to do a vinegar rinse inside your dishwasher every so often to clean out the funk. Oh and refer to your owners manual for instructions on the vinegar type rinses. It really helps clean out the bottom of your dishwasher. My Sears repair man showed me how to do it!

What can you do today to save money and have more fun??

  1. If you like to save Lots! of Money$$$$ Have you ever checked out www.grocerysmarts.com. I don't know where you live but on the website you can look up the person for your area and she'll give you a code and do a class for a group of friends for free. You put in a code, you click which groceries you want, it condenses it for you, gives you links for more coupons, use Sunday papers from the Dollar Store which are 35cents each, no need for a subscription through your local paper, and it's easy... that's the key thing or NO ONE would do it. If you have questions just holar at me and I can help you. :)

  2. Hi Nedra-
I do grocery smarts and pinchingyour pennies.com (PYP since 2005) but don't really talk about on this blog because there are soooooo many couponing blogs out there for that info. Don't you worry, I am ALL about coupons! I hope other readers check it out if they haven't already. Utah is very coupon friendly. Staci
